Close-up of person at computer STORYLINE United States President Barack Obama said on Friday that despite disappointing unemployment figures reported for December the trend is pointing in the right direction. "What this underscores though is that we have to continue to explore every avenue to accelerate the return to hiring," Obama told journalists at the White House. The president outlined a new initiative to create technology jobs after a weak government jobs report raised new questions about the sustainability of the financial recovery. Obama spoke after the Labour Department said the US jobless rate was unchanged at 10 percent in December, following a decline the previous month. But the government''s broader measure of unemployment, which includes people who have stopped looking for work or can''t find full-time jobs, ticked up 0.1 percentage point to 17.3 percent. That, plus the larger-than-expected loss of 85,000 jobs in December, put new pressure on the administration to step up job creation. Riveted for the past two weeks on the issue of security, the White House has been eager for a subject change. And Friday''s remarks were an attempt to return national attention to Obama''s domestic agenda, particularly jobs. Jobseekers in New York City meanwhile said on Friday that trying to find work in the current economic climate was difficult. "I find when I go for the interview that there are a thousand applicants for one job and it''s very, very disheartening," said unemployed city woman Simone Peele. Obama on Friday announced 2.3 (b) billion dollars in tax credits, to be paid for from last year''s 787 (bn) billion dollar stimulus package, that he said would create some 17-thousand "green" jobs. The money will go to projects including solar, wind and energy management. Watch Don show you how to answer "Why Do You Want to Work Here? Why you want to work here iis a great question and is sure to come up during your interview and probably when you least expect it. Lack of preparation for this question could very well cost you the job. One of the most important things is to be honest with your reason for wanting to work there, otherwise it will show. Ask yourself the question first, why do you want to work there? If your answer about working there is that you just need a job and paycheck, then dig a little deeper. If you still can't come up with an honest answer, then read on and hopefully I'll help you think of something. Make sure you have a clear understanding of why you want to work for them and that it's more than "just a job" to you. Do you admire this company? Do you like their products? Do they have a great success story? The key here is what is important to you about this company. The best way to prepare for why you want to work there is to research the company before you attend the interview and learn everything you can, past, present and future. Remember, the idea behind the interview is to find the best and most qualified candidate for the job and one that will best fit in with its culture. At this point, you should describe how your past experience has prepared you for this company. Your answer should demonstrate your familiarity with the company and its products and by doing this the interviewer will recognize you as a serious candidate. Interviewers like to hear praise about their company because it further solidifies the company's reputation in their own mind, but don't overdo it because it will come out sounding fake and cheap. [2017] UKSC 72 UKSC 2016/0062 R (on the application of C) (Appellant) v Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (Respondent) On appeal from the Court of Appeal Civil Division (England and Wales) The Court orders that no one shall publish or reveal the names/former names or addresses/former addresses of the Appellant or her lay witnesses or those of the Intervener (excluding James Morton) who are involved in these proceedings or publish or reveal any information which would be likely to lead to the identification of them in connection with these proceedings. The issue in this case is whether the respondent's policies in respect of the retention and processing of historic gender data are compatible with the appellant’s rights under arts.3, 8 and 14 European Convention on Human Rights and ss.13, 19 and 26 of the Equality Act 2010. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) retains details of the identity (including former gender information and name if such exists) of all of its customers for the purposes of fraud prevention and pension calculation. Further, the DWP operates a policy of enhanced security in respect of certain customer records, including transgender customers where disclosure of their records could be likely to result in, for example, substantial distress and/or physical harm. The appellant is a transgender woman who transitioned from male to female in 2003. She obtained a Gender Recognition Certificate in March 2006, and this was notified to the DWP. She is in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance and attends fortnightly appointments at her local job centre. It is the appellant’s position that her transgender status has become known to Job Centre staff and other customers and this has caused the appellant distress and humiliation. It has also on occasion resulted in delays in the payment of her Jobseeker's Allowance. The Supreme Court unanimously dismisses the appeal. The Retention and Special Customer Records policies are not inconsistent with or prohibited by any provision of the Gender Recognition Act 2004. The Retention policy is a proportionate means of achieving its legitimate aims.

http://www.euronews.com/ The latest official figures show almost five million people registered as unemployed in Spain in April. The number of Spaniards looking for work did fall by by 46,000 from the previous month, but that was mostly due to restaurants and hotels hiring for the holiday season. Adjusted for such seasonal factors as tourism industry work, the total went up in the month. One young woman outside a Madrid job centre said: "It's very bad. I'm trained as a social worker but there's no work, that's an areas where there have been lots of cuts. I'd take any work, even if it was just for two or three months." But the real situation is much worse that the Labour Ministry statistics imply. Official surveys showed 6.2 million people without a job in the first three months of the year. That is 27.16 percent of the workforce The almost five million total is just those who are on the books of job centres, it do not include the long-term unemployed who no longer register as out of work. Spain's jobless rate is the second highest in Europe behind Greece. It has risen every quarter since mid-2011. The youth unemployment rate in Spain is now at 56.5 percent, again second only to Greece. April's figures reveal the biggest falls in registered unemployed were in the services sector and in construction, from which millions have already lost their jobs after the property bubble burst in 2008. But a survey this week showed that Spain's services sector shrank in April at its fastest rate this year, with employment conditions worsening every month since March 2008. The government expects the unemployment rate to remain above 24 percent until 2016. Spain has been in recession for almost four years now. The economy contracted at a slower pace of 0.5 percent quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter than 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter. The negative growth was driven mainly by weak domestic demand. *Job crisis* Europe's policymakers are starting to recognise chronic unemployment as a crisis in its own right, rather than something that will resolve itself when the economy improves. As the European Commission's spring economic forecast was released UE Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said it would do "whatever it takes" to overcome the jobless crisis. That was a phrase borrowed from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi's pledge to protect the euro. In previous forecasts, Rehn mentioned reducing unemployment mainly as something that would only come further down the line, after the completion of painful reforms. Jobs data from across the Atlantic, released on Friday, contrasted starkly. The United States added 165,000 non-farm jobs in April, while the unemployment rate there fell to 7.6 percent, its lowest since December 2008. In the eurozone the jobless rate hit a new record 12.1 percent in March, meaning more than 19 million people are out of work. *No quick fix* Even if Europe's politicians increasingly recognise joblessness as a crisis that must be fought actively, there is little that could spur a quick change in fortunes. "There are always measures which the authorities can take to get the labour market going," said Philip Shaw, chief economist at Investec in London. "The problem is, given the depth of the crisis, they're unlikely to make a material, positive impact for quite some time. There is absolutely no quick fix to the problem." US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew recently said a rush towards fiscal austerity in Europe had worsened the economic situation in some countries, arguing that there is a need to assess the impact of budget cuts on growth and employment. He and his G7 finance minister counterparts meet on Friday in London, and although the agenda focuses on fighting tax evasion, the event will provide another chance to discuss how Europe can return to prosperity. Ultimately, the solution lies in the structural reforms that are already slowly taking place, and also in the restoration of Europe's banking system. Shaw cited the fact US banks recapitalised earlier than those in Europe, particularly in the eurozone, as one of many reasons why the American economy has performed better, therefore creating more jobs. "(US) unemployment peaked in double digits back in 2009. Looking at a snapshot now, the US seems to have less of an unemployment issue than continental Europe," said Shaw. Two weeks ago, the BBC published a vapid iteration of its unrivaled brand of anti-journalism on all things 9/11, which it unironically titled: “The people who think 9/11 may have been an ‘inside job.’” (http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-42195513) The article trots out the familiar trope of suggesting that people believe in “conspiracy theories” because of their supposed “need for an explanation that’s proportional to the event itself.” Featured in the article are, among others, British 9/11 family member Matt Campbell and AE911Truth’s newest board member, Roland Angle, PE, a civil engineer of 50 years. The author writes of Angle: “Any apparent discrepancy [regarding the BBC’s reporting of WTC 7’s total destruction 23 minutes before it actually occurred] was cleared up by a 2008 report by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) which found that WTC7 collapsed after fires on multiple floors ‘caused a critical support column to fail, initiating a fire-induced progressive collapse that brought the building down’. “But that did not change the minds of the conspiracy theorists. “AE911 Truth board member Roland Angle alleges there are significant errors in the NIST report. His organisation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund additional research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The conclusions of that study will be published in 2018. “‘We're trying to clear up the reputation of our own profession,’ Roland tells me. ‘We can say what didn't happen that day, no matter what the government report says.’ “‘We think there's a serious issue here.’” Fortunately, anticipating that there would be a disconnect between the article and what actually transpired in the interview with Chris Bell, Roland Angle decided to tape it. We invite you to watch the interview, meet Roland Angle (who also appeared in "9/11: Explosive EvidenceExperts Speak Out"), and see for yourself whether he’s a “conspiracy theorist” in need of an explanation.

A top official with the Department of Homeland Security issued a scathing statement this week excoriating NBC News for misrepresenting comments she had made to the network in an interview last week. “Recent NBC reporting has misrepresented facts and confused the public with regard to Department of Homeland Security and state and local government efforts to combat election hacking,” began the statement by Jeanette Manfra, the head of cybersecurity at DHS. In its original report, which remained online and unedited as of Wednesday morning, NBC wrote, “The U.S. official in charge of protecting American elections from hacking says the Russians successfully penetrated the voter registration rolls of several U.S. states prior to the 2016 presidential election.” The subtle suggestion was that the Russians had actually affected the outcome of the election. In her statement Monday, Manfra disputed this insinuation and further noted that she had never implied otherwise during her interview with NBC. “We have no evidence — old or new — that any votes in the 2016 elections were manipulated by Russian hackers,” she said in the statement. “As I said eight months ago, a number of states were the target of Russian government cyber actors seeking vulnerabilities and access to U.S. election infrastructure. In the majority of cases, only preparatory activity like scanning was observed, while in a small number of cases, actors were able to access the system but we have no evidence votes were changed or otherwise impacted.” Manfra concluded her statement by blasting NBC for its “irresponsible reporting” and asserting that such reporting — which some might classify as fake news — “undermines the ability of the Department of Homeland Security, our partners at the Election Assistance Commission, and state and local officials across the nation to do our incredibly important jobs.” The reason NBC’s post remains online and unedited as of Wednesday morning is because the network apparently sees nothing wrong with its original report. “It’s hard to believe DHS actually watched or read NBC’s report. Our story is accurate, and makes all of the very same points this statement accuses us of not making,” a network representative told The Hill. The Hill’s own write-up noted that officials in some of the states that were allegedly targeted by Russian operatives “have disputed the conclusions, saying that the evidence did not point to targeting of actual election infrastructure.” It seems clear now that, despite suggestions or outright claims from some mainstream publishers, attempts by Russian operatives to affect the election failed. In a statement to the Washington Examiner, Brent Baker, vice president of research at the Media Research Center, argued that NBC’s story “(l)ooks like a pretty clear case of NBC News letting its interest in furthering its anti-Trump agenda get ahead of the facts.” “In a sure sign of how much credibility the story had, much of the rest of the media, which are just as interested in nailing Trump with a ‘gotcha’ Russian hacking story and all of which quickly picked up NBC’s report, quickly dropped it,” he added. However, that doesn’t mean the mainstream media have given up on the “Russia, Russia, Russia” angle altogether. “Trump still unconvinced Russia meddled in 2016 election,” reads the headline of a story CNN put up Wednesday morning. Constant headlines like this almost make me wonder if perhaps the Russians hacked the minds of the mainstream media’s pundits, because their obsession with “Russia, Russia, Russia” isn’t normal, folks. It’s just not. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ◆ Latest news videos: https://goo.gl/KQEyLw ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ★ CONNECT WITH US ★ ◆ Twitter: https://goo.gl/xLBdTz ◆ Google+: https://goo.gl/qXwdWc ◆ Email: info.khung@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Videos can use content-based copyright law contains reasonable use Fair Use (https://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/)
